Habitat for Humanity San Diego

Habitat for humanity San diego building houses for less fortunate families with Linear Corp and Fourten Digital Media Carlsbad.

October 5 2013-  Recently Habitat for Humanity San Diego was at it again, doing what they do best.   I got the privilege of being a part of this event where Habitat for Humanity, Linear Corp and Fourten Digital Media were building houses for the less fortunate in Lakeside California.  Intrigued, sentimental, nostalgic are all words that I would personally use to describe this event.   I really wasn't aware of what Habitat for Humanity did until this event, and growing up with a single mother and in a less fortunate family I really got to see what it was all about.  Filming the event was by far one of the most amazing days I got to have in a long time knowing just a cameras presence there was providing to the ambiance in that small area of the building establishment.

What a mind blowing concept I said.  But as I watched everyone that day, I realized that this wasn't just a Non-Profit organization.  These people were actually helping the earth grown in a positive manner.  That this small project has such a profound ripple in the "paying it forward" effect that the earth most desperately needs right now.  With all the instant gratification advertising and every growing mini malls, its tough to think people actually take 8-10 hours out of their day to come and do this kind of work.  I have to say, I have not seen or been a part of a "manual labor" 8 hour day in a long time.  If you think its easy, try it!

I noticed in the neighborhood around me that there was a lot of less fortunate people living in that community and that a new housing complex in that area was going to really change things for that community.  As I filmed the Event and was conscious of the my surroundings I witnessed people from the neighborhood coming by and watching.  Not just watching, but gazing with a giant smile on their face knowing that this 1 small act of kindness would do wonders for that area in every way including economy, Jobs and just a general nicer looking surrounding.  We all want to live in new communities with beautiful housing.  Well this is just a start for Lakeside.  From what I understand, this is one of many projects going on as I write this.

San Diego Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. They were founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent and affordable home to live in dignity and safety. SDHFH is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and serves the County of San Diego. SDHFH is an autonomous, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is governed locally, raises funds locally, and builds locally.   The programs are focused on creating homes for ownership by low-income families in need, offering a hand up, not a handout. All homes are sold to Partner Families at no profit and are financed by a 0%-interest 25 to 30-year mortgage.  The mortgage payments create a revolving fund that Habitat uses to construct future homes for local families in need.  Habitat partner families qualify for our program by showing a demonstrated need for improved housing, a willingness to partner with Habitat by committing to 250-500 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build their own homes, and the ability to repay the 0%-interest, 25 to 30-year mortgage.  Their  homes are built with donations of money, materials and labor in which case were funded by Linear Corporation in Carlsbad. Since 1988, SDHFH has built 187 homes throughout San Diego County, serving 809 men, women and children, with the support of 156,000 volunteers and generous corporate and government partners.

If you are a Large Corporation, small business or even just 1 individual, I urge you to get involved in something like this even if its just 1 hour out of your year.  Habitat for Humanity and corporations like Linear are changing the world one brick at a time and with each brick, comes a layer of positive energy that is spread throughout the community involved, the Linear corporation volunteers and the film crew on the building site.

This is the Video Created for Fourten Digital Media's Video Production crew for the Event:
